’Twas the Night Before Christmas at The Thomas Law Firm
“Twas the Night Before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. The children were nestled all snug in their beds, while visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads. And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap, had just settled down for a long winter’s nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, tore open the shutters and threw up the sash. The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow gave the lustre of midday to objects below. When what to my wondering eyes should appear, but a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer! With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick. More rapid than eagles his coursers they came, and he whistled and shouted and called them by name:
“Now Dasher, now Dancer, now Prancer and Vixen! On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen! To the top of the porch, to the top of the wall. Now dash away, dash away, dash away all!”
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew, with the sleigh full of toys and St. Nicholas too. And then, in a twinkling…I heard a loud smash, up above on the roof, and a horrible crash! It seems that St. Nick had drunk too much sherry, and proceeded to be a bit too merry. His sleigh now rested in a precarious place, and he sat on the roof, with a dazed, sad face.
As I rushed to his side to help him in, he shrugged his shoulders and said with a grin: “I should have let Rudolph’s nose guide the way, and made sure a designated-driver was assigned for the day.” I nodded and let the police lead him away, hoping St. Nicholas would be back some day.
For my neighbors and children, I gathered the gifts; they had scattered all over the snow-covered drifts. I set about delivering some cheer, even if I had no sleigh or flying reindeer. The crash had awoken people far and wide, and even the Whos Down in Whoville knew not where to hide. So we all gathered around the Christmas tree lights, and shared what remained of the most Holy Night. Most important of all was the lesson learned that night:
NO DRINKING AND DRIVING, AND TO ALL A GOODNIGHT!
